Shinrin-yoku, coined by the Japanese, can be defined as "forest bathing” or “taking in the forest atmosphere.” It is part of a holistic approach to health that emphasizes the therapeutic benefits of connecting with the natural world. Shinrin-yoku can lower cortisol levels, boost the immune system, and enhance mental clarity. During this course, participants will be invited to connect with all of their senses, the forest & surroundings, and the more than human world. This guided outdoor healing practice is unlike a guided nature walk or hike, forest therapy deliberately sets a slow pace and invites people to experience the pleasures of nature through all of their senses. Each walk ends with an offering of light refreshments including snacks and a tea service (wild foraged when possible). This option includes both a classroom lecture about forest therapy and an outdoor walk in Baker Park during the 2nd session Shinrin-yoku experience. The walk will be less than 1 mile.
