« back to classes page
This course will focus on events, history, people, and expression as it relates to artistic culture around the world. Coco Chanel and Christian Dior shaped the world's understanding of a ''fashionable woman'' from the early 1920's throughout the turbulent 20th Century. Their unique visions of how a woman should dress for everyday activities, as well as for glamorous events, reveal much about their philosophies and life experiences. Learn about the intense rivalry between these two fashion icons and explore the magnificent clothing that each created. Consider the following companion class and bus trip as well: LIR295 (Preserving the Past: Caring for Vintage and Antique Clothing), LIR369 (The Rise and Fall of American Women Through the Lens of Fashion), and LIR326 (Explore the World of Claire McCardell - Lecture and Museum Exhibit).
