Explore the World of Claire McCardell, a True Frederick Icon - Lecture and Museum Exhibit

This unique class will offer a deep dive into the life, work and cultural impact of the most famous American Fashion Designer of the mid-20th Century. The morning will feature an in-class presentation by a Vintage collector of McCardell’s unique designs, providing students with the opportunity to handle and explore original examples of her clothing. The class will then travel to Baltimore for a guided tour of the newest Claire McCardell Exhibit at the Maryland Center for History and Culture, to receive a behind the scenes peek at how the exhibit was created. Along the way, students will hear about Claire’s early life in Frederick, her beginning efforts to forge a unique style and reputation as a clothing designer, and the significant impact that she has had on American women for almost 75 years. A boxed lunch is included in the fee. Exploring the museum involves light walking and standing during the 2-hour tour portion of the course.
