Discover the dramatic story of Jamestown, the first permanent English settlement in North America and how close it came to failure. Explore why Jamestown was established, who founded it, and the extreme hardships faced by the settlers and those sent to rescue the struggling colony. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of what Jamestown meant to the people living in Virginia and to those watching events unfold back in England. The course also examines Jamestown’s role in the early development of slavery in the New World and its lasting influence on Virginia and the foundations of American history.
