From newspaper headlines to Netflix documentaries and online detective communities, media has transformed how the public experiences crime. This course explores how journalists, television, podcasts, documentaries, and social media influence criminal investigations, public opinion, and the justice system. Participants will examine famous cases to understand how media coverage has evolved, discuss the rise of citizen investigators and “cyber sleuths,” and explore the ethical questions surrounding true crime in the digital age.
