This course empowers Maryland residents to understand, track, and influence the legislative process from start to finish. Participants will explore each step of how laws are made in Maryland—from the birth of an idea, through drafting, hearings, debates, and final votes—gaining insight into where and how citizens can make an impact. You’ll learn to set up and use a MyMGA account to monitor bills, connect with legislators, and access key legislative information. We'll also discuss interpreting legislative materials, crafting persuasive written testimony, and delivering compelling oral statements for both virtual and in-person settings. By the end of the course, you’ll have the tools and confidence to be both an informed citizen and an effective advocate in shaping Maryland’s laws. This class is strictly non-partisan and informs on procedure only; political discussion on specific issues will not be allowed. It's recommended, but not required, that you bring a tablet or internet capable phone  with you so you can practice utilizing the resources that will be mentioned during the class.
