No outdoor space in America has more monuments than the Gettysburg National Battlefield. Many of these memorials are works of art, representing the triumphant and tragic memories of veterans North and South. Stone and bronze statuary commemorates the Civil War's "Highwater Mark," transforming the battleground into a landscape of visual retrospection. We will visit select memorials that reflect the triumphs and sacrifices of the First, Second and Third Days of Gettysburg and ruminate on their meanings today. The tour will mostly be via bus with tour stops and walking up to 2 miles spread throughout the day. A sit-down lunch at a local restaurant is included in the fee.
