Youth Programs Summer Information

Students learn more when they have the opportunity to discover and explore exciting topics in a fun, hands-on environment. That’s where we come in. We provide expert instruction, a safe environment, and all the supplies for a fun-filled summer of learning. To ensure everyone enjoys their time at Frederick Community College, we ask that you please read through the following Kids on Campus (KOC) rules and guidelines.

LUNCH BUNCH
If your child is signed up for a morning and an afternoon class, they must also be enrolled in Lunch Bunch to provide consistent supervision. Children are expected to bring a packed lunch each day. Please note FCC does not provide refrigeration for packed lunches. All lunches should contain non-perishable items. Use of the Cougar Grille and the campus vending machines is discouraged and access to them is not provided to Kids on Campus participants.

CLASS LOCATIONS

Most classes take place in Building E (Conference Center) and Building F (Visual and Performing Arts Center) while others are held at various locations on campus. A map is located on page 28 to assist parents and guardians with locating classrooms (see receipt for exact classroom numbers) and determining the best place to park. Additionally, our staff will be in both the Conference Center and Visual and Performing Arts lobbies to help guide anyone needing further assistance in locating a classroom. Class locations are subject to change. Please visit frederick.edu/youth to confirm your class location.

ONLINE REGISTRATION
When you're ready to register, click "Login/Create Account" in the green bar at the top of this page and follow the onscreen prompts. While a separate profile is needed for each child, the same email address can be used for each one. For additional information, please visit our Continuing Education Registration page.

YOUTH SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY
The Frederick Community College Foundation invites eligible families to apply for a Youth Programs Summer Scholarship valued at up to $300 per child. Eligibility requirements focus on family residency status, age of child(ren), registration in summer 2023 programs, and total family annual income, with specific details noted on the application. A separate application may be completed for each eligible child with supporting documents attached to at least one of the applications. If you have any questions, please contact Michael Thornton, FCC scholarship program manager, at mthornton@frederick.edu

FCC NOTIFICATIONS
Parents are strongly encouraged to sign up for FCC Alert”, a messaging system that delivers information regarding college closures, emergencies, etc. To sign up, visit frederick.omnilert.net/subscriber.php and click Sign Up in the upper right corner of the webpage. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the sign up process.

DROP OFF/PICK UP
The Conference Center (Building E) and the Visual & Performing Arts Center (Building F) are the two places where students can be dropped off and picked up. Directional signs on campus will direct you to these two locations. Each class registration confirmation indicates the exact location of each class. The information will also be provided in a reminder email. Campus maps and directions are available online at frederick.edu/maps.

ATTENDANCE/DISMISSAL

Attendance is taken daily in each class. Students will be signed in and signed out of classes by the instructor. Parents should bring their child to the class no earlier than 10 minutes prior to the start of the class. There is no supervision prior to this time.  At dismissal, students will be supervised until picked up.  Please be prompt! If you are going to be late, please call us at 301.846.2661 to let us know. We understand parents may have more than one child on campus at the same time. Students not picked up by 12:15 p.m. (for morning classes) or 4:15 p.m. (for afternoon classes) will be escorted to the Conference Center (Building E) to await pick up.

SIGN IN/SIGN OUT PROCEDURES

No child should be left unsupervised on campus.
  • Children ages 6 to 12 must be signed in and out of their classroom by an authorized adult.
  • Children attending both morning and afternoon programs on the same day will be checked out of morning and into afternoon classes by a Youth Program staff member.
  • The College will only release your child to those listed as authorized” on the Emergency Contact Form.  To authorized someone different to pick up your child, please call 301-846-2661 and email youthprograms@frederick.edu.

MEDICATIONS & EMERGENCIES
FCC Staff are not authorized to administer any non-emergency medication (prescription or non-prescription) to students. Emergency medications, including a rescue inhaler or epi-pen, can be administered by FCC staff with written authorization from a physician and parent/guardian. A completed Medication Administration Authorization should be sent to youthprograms@frederick.edu before a child attends class on campus. If non-emergency medication must be taken while the student is on campus, the parent/guardian is responsible for coming to campus to administer the medication. In emergencies requiring immediate medical attention, your child will be taken to the nearest hospital emergency room. Your signature below authorizes the person responsible at Frederick Community College to have your child transported to that hospital.

MEDICAL TREATMENT
Staff take all reasonable measures to ensure the safety of the children in the Kids on Campus (KOC) Program and provide appropriate supervision at all times. Scraped knees, nose bleeds, bee stings, and other injuries occasionally happen. KOC staff will follow the State regulations for minor injuries indicating staff can treat injuries with soap, water, ice, and bandages. If a child is injured or feeling ill, KOC staff will bring the individual to the KOC office for treatment and/or a short observation. All incidents are logged in the KOC health log and parents receive a copy of the incident report. If a child feels ill, staff will assess the situation and determine if the child can return to class or should leave for the day. If the child needs to leave class because of illness or a more serious injury, the parent will be notified and is expected to pick up their child immediately. If FCC or KOC staff deem the situation is an emergency, staff will immediately call 911 for medical assistance and/or transport, then notify the parent as quickly as possible.

MARKETING/CAMPUS PHOTOGRAPHY
As Frederick Community College is a public institution, students, employees and visitors may be photographed or videotaped and appear in marketing materials without prior permission. To that degree, children may be photography or videotaped while at FCC. If you wish to have your child(ren) excluded from these activities, please indicate this request on the KOC Emergency Contact Form.

REFUND POLICY

Cancellations

All students will be refunded 100% of class tuition and fees if a class is cancelled by the College.

Please note, only email requests to the address above can be considered. Voicemail requests are not eligible for processing.

Late Drop Requests

Requests to drop a class submitted after the Monday preceding the start of the class must be sent via email to youthprograms@frederick.edu. Please note, these requests are not eligible for a refund. If a refund is requested after the deadline in the event of extenuating circumstances, supporting documentation is required in the form of electronic or hard-copy documents from medical providers, employers, childcare providers, or others validating extenuating circumstances, in order to be considered. The College reserves the right to approve or disapprove full or partial refund requests submitted outside of the full refund period.

A transfer request with the name of the new class along with class dates must be emailed to ceinfo@frederick.edu. Please note, transfers requests are dependent on class availability and may not be processed after the eligible refund period. If there is a difference in price between the original class and the new class, this difference will be refunded or billed to the student accordingly.
