Study music history by exploring a diverse range of genres from different time periods and cultures. This course series offers a journey through time, examining the origins, evolution, and cultural significance of classical, modern, and pop culture genres. Students will learn about the social influences that shaped the genre, as well as key artists and iconic works that defined it. Our spring offering will focus on the roots of the banjo. "She'll be coming 'round the mountain when she comes" - the banjo is indeed a part of our American heritage. It has a richer history than ever imagined. This course will include a fascinating video of the famous Bela Fleck and other well-known artists. Be prepared to change everything you thought you knew about this unusual instrument.
