Focusing on the rich educational heritage of Frederick County, we’ll explore the history of several notable institutions, including the Loats Female Orphan Asylum, the Visitation Academy, the Maryland School for the Deaf, and the early days of Hood College. We’ll delve into what public and private education looked like for both boys and girls in Frederick, with particular attention to the African American community of All Saints Street. Additionally, we’ll discuss the significance of one-room schoolhouses and highlight some of the well-known educators from Frederick's past.
