Ferries across the Potomac River were once very numerous, transporting people and cargo between Maryland and Virginia. On this walking tour of the Nolands Ferry site in southern Frederick County, we will discuss the ferries' importance, especially after construction of the adjacent C&O Canal. We’ll focus on the history of Nolands Ferry which was originally a crossing for Native Americans. During the walk, we will identify trees and other plants as well as look for wildlife. The walk will be 1 mile in length along the level, gravel canal towpath with scenic views of the Potomac River. Rain Date – 5/21
