Take a fascinating journey through Frederick’s stormy past. This presentation explores how the people of Frederick have weathered nature’s extremes from the 1800s to the present day. Discover the powerful snowstorms that brought the city to a standstill including the historic blizzard of 2010 and the devastating floods that shaped local life, from 19th-century deluges to the flood of 1976. Learn how the powerful storms left their mark on the community including the development of flood control along Carroll Creek, the toll of droughts on agriculture, and the use of sleds during snowstorms. Through stories of resilience and innovation, this presentation reveals how weather has helped shape the identity of Frederick across generations.
