Over one hundred years ago George Hewitt Myers established The Textile Museum, positioning it as a world leader in the study and appreciation of textiles. This unusual collection includes more than 21,000 examples of handmade textile art representing five continents and five millennia. Students will participate in a docent-led tour then have free time to explore both permanent and special exhibits. Lunch will be on your own at “The Square”, a nearby premier food hall and market offering diverse restaurants and a vibrant atmosphere for all price points. Exploring the museum and food market involves moderate walking and standing with areas for sitting. Consider the following companion classes as well: LIR282 (One Dress, Eight Stories), LIR295 (Threads Throughout History), and LIR295 (Preserving the Past; Caring for Vintage and Antique Clothing).
