« back to classes page
Students will learn about the American Civil War and how it was the defining event of the nation’s history besides the very founding of the country itself. They will learn that this four-year struggle was the most violent period of what has become known as the Civil War Era. In this course, they will review the troubled founding of the nation, how the seeds of civil war were planted, and how the turbulent years of the 19th century set the stage for America's bloodiest conflict. The terrible years of 1861-1865 will be looked at, as will the tenuous peace that followed. Students will also learn that although the nation had been saved, it was imperfectly stitched back together with repercussions still felt today.
