Women have used textiles, sewing, and needlework for centuries to express their emotions and tell of their life circumstances. This class will examine inspiring chronicles showing how cloth and hand stitching can hold cultural memories, tell powerful stories, celebrate life’s beauty, and even scream protest to remember injustice. By witnessing these stories, these textiles hold hope for the future. This class will be fascinating for needlework and history buffs alike, as well as those struggling with how to express their emotions in a chaotic world. Class will be based on the book Threads of Life: A History of the World through the Eye of a Needle by Clare Hunter. Consider the following companion classes and bus trip as well: LIR282 (One Dress, Eight Stories), LIR295 (Preserving the Past; Caring for Vintage and Antique Clothing), and LIR332 (Textile Museum Bus Trip)
