One often hears that the purpose of meditation is to learn to relax.  Relaxing is often a byproduct of meditation.  Another purpose for meditation can be to be to enter one's life more fully, being present on the spot to whatever comes up, rather than being riveted about by one's hopes and fears. The practice of the Four Foundations is a developed practice to enter our everyday lives more fully. Meditation allows us to make friends with ourselves and develop compassion towards others. This is a course on mindfulness. not about becoming a Buddhist but rather about employing techniques that Gotama Buddha employed over 3,000 years ago. It worked for him, and it has worked for many people from a variety of spiritual traditions. So this is not a religious course, but it is about working with techniques and exercises that will allow one to enter the present of our ordinary lives more fully.  Meditation instruction will be an integral part of this course.
