This course traces the history of heaven from the earliest records of the fertile crescent through Greece, Rome and the established religions of the eras following the rise of Christianity. This will be followed by an examination of Purgatory which developed at a later time and which is viewed differently from Heaven and Hell as a place of transition rather than a finality.
