End-of-Semester Wood Firing

Join us for an end-of-semester wood firing experience, now offered as a Community Education course. This immersive, hands-on workshop provides students with the opportunity to participate in a full-scale wood kiln firing, engaging in one of ceramics' most traditional and dynamic processes. This class is open exclusively to students currently enrolled in Pottery 1, Pottery 2, or those who have previously completed a Wood Fire course at Frederick Community College. Students will participate in the stages of the firing process, including glazing and kiln firing. All pieces have to be at the studio by May 11 at noon for the last bisque fire. The class sessions are as follows: Session #1 – Glazing and Wadding, Session #2 – Kiln Prep and Load (students are expected to come anytime between the hours of 12:00 pm- 4:00 pm), Session #3 - Firing, Session #4 - Unload/Pick Up.

 

Students not currently enrolled in Pottery 1 or 2 but have taken a wood fire course at the College previously, must provide their own access to a studio to create their work for the firing. They will not have access to the studio here at the college except for access in order to have their work bisque fired and glazed. Students will coordinate directly with the instructor to have their pieces bisque-fired prior to the scheduled wood firing.

Session #4 (Unload): 05/22; 12-2pm - Mercer-Akre Kiln
