« back to classes page
Gain a new perspective when we join famed historian, Dennis Frye, for a narrated walk through the battle grounds of Antietam. Transportation via the FCC shuttle bus is provided so you can meet up with your guide. Spend the morning walking in the footsteps of the soldiers, both blue and gray, and see Bloody Lane from different vantage points. During a mid-day break, we'll have lunch at a local restaurant and then head back to the battlefield. An afternoon stroll of the Mumma and Roulette farms in the center of the battlefield will illustrate how the war brought disaster to innocent civilians. Hear Dennis' griping and personal story of the discovery of soldiers' remains in an unmarked grave site and "feel" the tragedy of our Civil War. Following established NPS trails, this experience will provide you with an understanding of the terrain as well as the ebb and flow of the battles.
