Have you ever played a 2D side-scroller video game like Super Mario or Hollow Knight or a 2D fighting game like Street Fighter? The artists who design those games and others like them are faced with a challenge: convey motion and actions in a very limited space. Each character not only has to look convincing and alive, but they have to look heavy and powerful in the case of Street Fighter, or agile and athletic in the case of Super Mario. Learn the art of pixel art animation as done through a pixel art editor and create a three-to-four frame set of moving art. Students must have Piskel, a free online editor for animated sprites and art (piskelapp.com) on their computer to participate. All supplies will be the responsibility of the student.
