« back to classes page
Burnside Bridge is Antietam's most iconic image. The graceful three-arch stone span, original to its core, has endured war, floods and millions of tourists. But few understand its real role in America's bloodiest battle. Join Civil War historian and Antietam scholar Dennis Frye for a stroll about the bridge, discovering its hidden mysteries and the falsehoods surrounding its legends. Dennis is renowned for challenging conventional history, and in this case, he will tackle the near impossible - redeeming Burnside's reputation.  Bring your walking shoes as we expect to walk a total distance of 2.7 miles over gentle undulating terrain. Please bring a foldable chair in case you need a rest during the walk. No refunds after close of business on 6/1.  Rain date is Friday, 6/11.
