Delivering basic riding skills and strategies, this course is designed for true beginners, those with little or no experience, seeking a Class “M” motorcycle license. An individual with a Maryland driver’s license who satisfactorily completes this course will have their course completion information submitted directly to the MVA, indicating MVA requirements have been met for a Class "M" license. Please allow 2 business days for the information to appear in your MVA account. Students then need to make an appointment with a full-service MVA office to have their license updated. This course includes three hours of independent, online study at home that must be completed prior to the start of the course, seven hours of formal classroom, and ten hours of riding exercises that focus on basic riding skills and strategies. Classroom instruction focuses on responsible riding, selecting proper riding gear, and developing riding strategies while in traffic and in special situations. Riding exercises take place on a training motorcycle. Students practice clutch-throttle control, stopping, turning, shifting and crash avoidance. Instructors evaluate and coach your performance throughout the course. Successful completion of the course includes both a written and on-range riding test.
