The full title of the book that we will study is The Book of Joy - Lasting Happiness in an Unchanging World (2016). We live in our difficult times with uncertainty. The term “lasting happiness” may seem preposterous to us given the world’s suffering. Nevertheless, these two men, the Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu (Tutu now recently deceased), have undergone a combined fifty years of exile as they lived through each of their own nation's violence and suffering. They present a vision that allows for a spiritual peace not only for their own followers but for millions worldwide. Having both earned the Nobel Prize for Peace, simply put, they have walked their talk. The Book of Joy is a New York Times Bestseller. Join these men, one Buddhist from Tibet and one Christian from South Africa, as they discuss our common spiritual humanity and provide directions for a spiritual path which they say not only they, but we, too, can access. Meditation practice and teachings will be an ongoing part of these classes. One should procure the book to participate. We highly recommend that you read this book, available in both print and e-reader forms, prior to class.
