This course is intended for a rider who has prior street experience and is seeking a class “M” motorcycle license. An individual with a Maryland driver’s license who satisfactorily completes this course will have their course completion information submitted directly to the MVA, indicating MVA requirements have been met for a Class "M" license.
Please allow 2 business days for the information to appear in your MVA account. An appointment must be made with a full-service MVA office to update a license within 6 months of completion or the course will need to be taken again. Out-of-state students receive a Motorcycle Safety Program certificate to present to the home state as proof of completion. This course includes five hours of independent, online study at home that must be completed prior to the start of the course and five hours of riding exercises intended to evaluate the rider’s abilities to operate a motorcycle. Participants are encouraged to use their own personal motorcycle, transported legally to the training center, but may utilize a training center bike. This course is not intended or designed for beginner riders. To participate in this course, riders must be able to do the following:
- Use the clutch and throttle to get the motorcycle in motion
- Stop the motorcycle properly in a designated area
- Execute gradual and tight turns
- Upshift and downshift smoothly
- Achieve a speed of 25mph
Riders unable to demonstrate minimum riding proficiency will be dismissed from the course. If you don’t believe that you have the above skills, you should enroll in the Basic Rider Course instead.
