David I. Rome details how we can use the wisdom of the body as a tool to embrace our lives more completely. Rome explains techniques such as focusing, developed by psychologist Eugene Gendlin, as well as his own mindfulness/awareness Buddhist practices, that help us access the body’s felt sense. This felt sense can help us integrate both personal and shared experiences that we encounter in our lives. As part of the class, we will have a deep reading of Rome’s work combined with experimentation with some of his varied techniques. With a true mind-body connection, an embodied presence, we become more capable of navigating the ups and downs of life. Meditation techniques will be explored and practiced during the course. We highly recommend that you purchase Your Body Knows the Answer: Using Your Felt Sense To Solve Problems, Effect Change & Liberate Creativity by David I. Rome, available in both print and e-reader forms. The book will be read during the course.
