This workshop follows the Amherst Writers and Artists (AWA) format; each participant is recognized as a writer with a unique voice. The facilitator offers the group writing prompts, participants write for a specific period of time and then share their writing. Group feedback focuses only on what is strong, memorable, and working in the piece shared. Participants have the option to choose an alternate topic if the prompt offered does not appeal. The AWA method requires deep listening and the ability to enter the writer's world (amherstwriters.org). Participants will practice writing exercises developed by writers Natalie Goldberg, Mary Karr, and Anne LaMott, among others, to craft pieces of writing. In the last week or two of the class, writers will be invited to submit work for a manuscript review. This is an opportunity to receive feedback on one’s work. This class is a woman only offering for the spring.
