« back to classes page
The Lees lived in northern Virginia from 1640-1807. Thomas Lee, builder of Stratford Hall, contributed to England's war with France through his economic activities. Three of his sons helped drive the colonies' movement toward independence in 1776 and an alliance with France. Henry “Light Horse Harry” Lee was a successful military commander in the South during the Revolution and the father of Civil War Confederate general, Robert E. Lee. We’ll explore the political beliefs, military tactics, and leadership styles of the Lee family.
